Welcome to Surfside Costa Rica
Surfside is a community located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is about 40 miles Southwest of the international airport at Liberia, Costa Rica. Surfside is a "tee shirt and tevas" community of mostly expatriate Americans and Canadians. It has a casual, laid back atmosphere. The temperature is usually about 85 degrees and does not vary more than 5 degrees or so during the whole year.
The beaches are among the most diverse in the world. Some are quiet and secluded, like Playa Danta, which you reach by four wheel drive road. Others have unique features, like Playa Conchal, which consists of mounds of softly ground sea shells. A beach like Playa Grande has large waves, and is good for boogie boarding. A beach like Playa Potrero is sheltered in a bay, and is safer for smaller children. The region was formed by ancient volcanic lava flows and the coastline is irregular. This has created the great diversity of beaches within 3 to 10 miles of the house. You can go to a different beach every day.
The house is completely modern, built in 2006. It is approximately 1750 square feet in size and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are three bed rooms upstairs, each with its own bathroom. Every bedroom has its own air conditioner that is controlled by a remote similar to that for a TV. Each room can be adjusted to your personal temperature level. The main floor has a complete kitchen, a living room with entertainment center, and dining area. The house is furnished as you would expect an American house to be. The living room opens onto a pool in the back yard, with a surrounding wall for privacy.
The house is located in the jungle about 800 yards from the beach at Playa Potrero. It is about 600 yards from the local coffee and breakfast hangout known as the "Castle." The local food store is the "Surfside Market" which is about 800 yards away, where they sell everything from fresh fruit to wine in one small store.
This part of Costa Rica is scheduled for rapid development. At present it is uncrowded, with lots of jungle and wildlife. You will hear howler monkeys at night, and may run into a troupe of them during the day. It is pastoral, with horses and cows wandering on the dirt roads and on the beach. But change is on the way. There is a 550 acre Hyatt Regency resort being built within 4 miles of the house, costing $100 million, with a Greg Norman golf course. The remoteness and wildness of this place will likely disappear within the next 10 years.
